Episcopal Ordination of Paul Donoghue SM

New Catholic Bishop for the Cooks

On Saturday 17th of July 2011, hundreds of Catholics from across the Cook Islands and the Oceania region gathered at the St.Joseph Cathedral in Avarua, Rarotoga for the Ordination of the New Bishop Paul Donoghue SM.

The principal consecrating Bishop was Bishop Stuart O'Connell SM, and the two Assistants to the Principal Consecrating Bishop were Archbishop Charles Balvo, and Bishop Denis Browne. Concelebrating at the Mass were six other Bishops, and thirteen priests, and one Deacon.

Special honour was given to the ocassion by the presence of the Queen's Representative, Sir Frederick Goodwin and Lady Goodwin, prime minister Henry Puna and his wife Akaiti, Deputy Prime minister - Tom Masters
and his wife Tuaine and many traditional leaders as well as business people.

After the ordination ceremony and Mass; Bishop Donoghue was presented with a 'rito hat' and was carried to the reception on top of the 'paata' by young warriors.
